David Ellefson recorded his bass lines in May 2020 in Nashville. However, Mustaine decided not to use his recordings. Soon after, the band invited Steve DiGiorgio from Testament to redo the bass parts, while James LoMenzo returned to the group as the official bassist in 2021.
The musician described the process as exhausting. He stated that the producer dismissed all of his contributions. Furthermore, Ellefson said that the atmosphere in the band was full of resentment and bitterness. He advocated for a more organic and faster approach, inspired by Peace Sells .
The desire to re-record Metallica

Furthermore, the bassist pointed out that, although the idea might be fun, he didn't feel comfortable blindly following orders.
The nostalgia of Youthanasia
Revisiting Youthanasia (1994), Ellefson noticed the difference between the classic lineup and the more recent productions. He recalled that the four members recorded together in the same room, conveying energy and authenticity. On the other hand, current recordings have become more digital and less spontaneous, according to the musician.

Lars Ulrich any credit for the songs, because they were written solely by him and James Hetfield . Therefore, the full re-release did not materialize.
Ellefson's departure and LoMenzo's return.
Ellefson left Megadeth in 2021 after intimate messages and videos were leaked. He had previously left in 2002 and sued Mustaine in 2004 for royalties, but the lawsuit was dismissed in 2005.
Meanwhile, James LoMenzo, who was a member of the band between 2006 and 2010, reassumed the position in 2021 and remains as bassist.
