Dave Mustaine on Lars Ulrich and the lawsuit against Napster: "Does he have enough money?"

The founder of Megadeth said he didn't understand Ulrich's decision in the early 2000s

In a recent appearance on the HBO documentary Woodstock 99: Peace, Love and Rage , Dave Mustaine Lars Ulrich 's decision to sue the digital platform Napster in the early 2000s as a means of trying to curb digital piracy.

Despite saying in 2012 that the creators of Napster “probably ruined hundreds of thousands of lives,” Mustaine seemed confused by Ulrich’s decision to try and fight this battle in court.

“I remember when I was in Metallica , we used to trade tapes. That’s how we discovered new bands,” Dave says. “I don’t know, I can’t blame Lars for doing the things he does. Who knows what drives a guy to do that? I mean, does he have enough money? Probably, right?”

Napster was created by two university students in 1999 and was a platform that allowed the sharing of MP3 files, which could be downloaded for free. This facilitated not only the spread of piracy but also the leaking of albums before their official release date .

Recently, Corey Taylor also commented on Lars Ulrich's stance , saying that the musician "was right on many levels" for being able to foresee what this format would mean for the illegal dissemination of music in the years to come.
