Dave Mustaine confirmed this Thursday, the 30th, that a version of Metallica is a bonus track on the self-titled album, scheduled for release on January 23, 2026.
Through a video on the band's social media, vocalist Mustaine, who played guitar in Metallica from 1982 to 1983, confirmed that he recorded a version of the title track from the album Ride The Lightning (1984), as a tribute to his Metallica colleagues.
In an exclusive interview with Metal Hammer , he said: “I think it was the right time to record it and close the cycle. It’s a return to my roots and, honestly, it’s a good song, we played it very well. We sped up the tempo a bit, but personally I think that when you’re going to do a cover of a song, you have to do something as good as the original, or even better. I really think we did as good a job as the original version.”
James’ playing style , so this is a tribute to him and to Metallica for everything they’ve done, and for everything we’ve done. That legacy that was truly born in that little garage in Norwalk, California.”
Dave Mustaine is credited as the composer of the original music , as well as the debut album Kill 'Em All . Mustaine's departure from Metallica occurred due to growing personal discord within the band.
Megadeth also announced their Farewell Tour , which includes a stop in Brazil. The production company Mercury Concerts confirmed the band's arrival for a single show in São Paulo on May 2nd at Espaço Unimed.
