radio KISS FM, Dave Mustaine shared advice for young people starting out in music, highlighting practical points about career paths and band formation.

The leader of Megadeth stated that young musicians need to invest in education. According to him, studying helps develop business acumen and organizational skills. Another key point involves the selection of band members.

“Well, you need to surround yourself with the right people. If you have a band, you need to pay attention to the musicians who make it up. Is someone in the band because they’re your friend or because they’re an amazing drummer? Or an amazing guitarist? Or are they my brother-in-law? Because that’s usually the first sign that you’re not going to make it. And then you need to make sure you have a good team—a good manager, a good lawyer, a good financial manager, who is an accountant. If you have those things and, most importantly, you have good music, you’re on the right track,” Mustaine stated [transcription via Blabbermouth].

Former member's behavior prevents Megadeth reunion

Previously, Dave Mustaine stated that he doesn't believe it's possible to reunite former Megadeth members for a farewell show. His reasoning, according to him, lies in the past behavior of one of the former band members.

“Well, I really can’t do that, because of the behavior of one of the band members in the past. I just can’t, I can’t. Because, first of all, it would be unfair to the other band members if I didn’t play with them as well. But what we did with Marty [Friedman, former guitarist 1990–2000, 2023] in Japan, in early 2024, was an obvious decision. It was brilliant. And I love Marty,” Mustaine stated.

Although Mustaine didn't directly name the person he was referring to, many point to former bassist David Ellefsonwho was fired in 2021 after the release of an intimate video considered scandalous. This episode strained his relationship with the band, which gives meaning to Mustaine's statement about "past behavior." Meanwhile, Ellefson has expressed in other interviews his desire to participate in Megadeth's final tour, if invited.

Megadeth has released their final, self-titled album and is continuing with their farewell tour. In Brazil, the band has confirmed a single show on May 2nd at Espaço Unimed in São Paulo. Tickets are already sold out.
