Loudwire Nights program , Dave Mustaine spoke about Megadeth 's new self-titled album – their last album to date – and about the band's farewell tour.
“We’re going to finish in style, and that’s what we’ve always wanted to do. For Teemu [ Mäntysaari ] , Dirk [ Verbeuren ], and James [ LoMenzo] , I wanted to assure them that these will be the best years of our lives. We played better than many bands that are touring today, not all of them. But we managed to match many of them, and we varied our setlist, so we always played Megadeth songs,” shared the frontman.
Visibly emotional, Mustaine spoke about Megadeth's final tour and what it means to him and the band.
“I saw that a long time ago, at a Police somewhere, but I don’t remember where. They took their instruments and handed them to the guys from U2 , and it was a really legitimate passing of the baton. I don’t know who it would be if the time comes for me to take my guitar and hand it to someone else. But you know, I think it’s time for there to be a new generation of Big Four ,” he concluded.
The musician didn't have an immediate answer as to who these new Big Four , but concluded: "I see a lot of bands out there, and a lot of them are really good, but are there really four? I don't know."
Megadeth has confirmed a single show in Brazil for May 2nd, at Espaço Unimed in São Paulo, as part of their Farewell Tour . Tickets are already sold out.
