Dave Matthews says that metal fans are drunk and ugly

Dave Matthews Band emerged in 1991

Dave Matthews , of the Dave Matthews Band , in an interview with Vulture's David Marchese , mentioned the heavy metal audience in a rather curious way. Read part of the interview below:

Many people – including you – seem to have non-musical feelings about the Dave Matthews Band. How much of that is an obstacle?

“Yes, it used to be ‘If you like Nirvana , you can’t like the Dave Matthews Band’; ‘If you like Pearl Jam , you can’t like the Dave Matthews Band.’ But if I can like all bands, then why can’t other people? I think we all have our tribe and you’re supposedly not supposed to be in more than one. I remember the quote from Miles Davis when he asked, ‘What kind of music do you like?’”

And he replies: "Good music is good music."

“Good music, yes. I love country music because there is great country music. I love heavy metal because there is great heavy metal. Someone will have brilliance inside whatever box they're in. That brilliance is what I look for. There's all kinds of music, just like there are all kinds of drinks.”.

Considering what you said about drinking, is it strange to spend summers in front of crowds where you know people are completely drunk?

"There probably isn't as much drinking at our shows as at heavy metal shows, and our audience is much better looking! But yes, you see very drunk people from the stage. There's a lot of partying around me.".

Dave Matthews Band is an American rock band that emerged in the early 90s. The band's new album, their ninth, Come Tomorrow , will be released on June 8th by RCA Records.
