Dave Lombardo , former drummer of Slayer , spoke in an interview with Fistful Of Metal about his feelings of frustration with the repetitiveness of the band's tours and recordings. He also talked about Venamoris , a project he has with his wife Paula Lombardo.
Regarding his time in Slayer, Lombardo stated (via Blabermouth ): “Back in '89, after touring month after month with SLAYER, I was feeling a bit frustrated after doing the same thing day after day. It became so repetitive and I really had a huge urge to do something different.”
Dave recalls how he wanted to work with other musicians, explore new musical directions, and break free from monotony. Thus, in the early 90s, he began working with Testament and Fantômas . The drummer noted how fun, albeit challenging, that period was.
"That was truly the moment that changed me so much. That's what I was really craving when I think about that feeling of frustration in '89."
Venamoris and new album
To Cross Or To Burn on February 28th through Ipecac Recordings . Dave expressed how personal this record is, a creation made at home where they had control over all the elements and atmosphere.
“We decided everything, and that’s what makes it so special. The fact that these are Paula’s lyrics is also kind of scary for her, because they’re very personal lyrics… Making this album was a very liberating experience for both of us.”
