Gene Hoglan 's departure , Testament announced that they will reunite with drummer Dave Lombardo .

Lombardo, a founding member of Slayer , is known as one of the greatest drummers in thrash metal and previously joined Testament in 1999 to participate in the album The Gathering .

His return to the band was enthusiastically announced by vocalist Chuck Billy , who expressed his delight via a statement ( Consequence ). “I’ll state the obvious. We are beyond thrilled to welcome Dave Lombardo back to play drums in Testament. Dave added immense power when he joined the band for the release of The Gathering and we are ecstatic to see what kind of new flavor he will bring to Testament.”

Lombardo also expressed optimism about the reunion, commenting: “This is a long-awaited reunion that had to happen. We once created a masterpiece of thrash. I have no doubt that our musical chemistry will pick up where it left off. I love the Testament family and I’m very excited to be joining them again. What awaits us is pure brutality.”
