In an interview with Rolling Stone , Dave Grohl Foo Fighters ' 2011 song "Walk" Nirvana bandmate , Kurt Cobain .
“Waking up that day and realizing, ‘Oh, shit, he’s not here anymore. I am. I can wake up and he can’t. I’m making a cup of coffee and he can’t. I’m going to turn on the radio and he won’t,’ was a huge revelation for me,” Grohl says. “I just kept thinking, ‘I don’t want anyone to feel the way I felt that morning.’”
Dave Grohl also revisited the lyrics where he says he never wants to die and reinforced the idea: “I’m serious, I don’t want to die! I know it’s inevitable, but I don’t want to. It sucks. I’m going to fight it as much as I can.”
Recently, in a BBC , Grohl admitted that, even after 27 years, he is still processing Kurt Cobain's death. “I still have dreams where we’re in Nirvana, where we’re still a band,” he admitted. “I still dream that there’s an empty arena waiting for us so we can play. But I don’t sit at home and dwell on ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit.’ It’s just a reminder that the person responsible for all those beautiful songs is no longer with us. It’s bittersweet.”
