"Everyone likes them"
In an interview with Planet Rock, Dave Grohl says that Pantera inspired him to have unusual guest appearances on his latest album, Concrete and Gold .
On the album, the band brought in Justin Timberlake and Shawn Stockman (Boyz II Men) to collaborate.
“We get along with everyone (…) For years we’ve been that band that, when we arrive at a festival, the first thing we do is grab a whiskey and knock on every backstage door to see who’s cool.”
He explains that this habit of going out and meeting people was something he learned from Pantera: “At the time we did a show with Pantera and we became friends. And then I realized that when you're backstage at a Pantera show, you find Marilyn Manson on one side, Kato Kaelin on another, Britney Spears on another… Everyone liked hanging out with them. For me, that's the coolest thing.”
Grohl recounts that during the recording of the new album, the band met several other artists such as Glenn Hughes from Deep Purple, Joe Bonamassa, Lady Gaga, and Wolf Alice. "We'd all hang out drinking in the parking lot, or smoking outside, and that's how you make friends. It's that easy."
