Dave Grohl talks about the first time he saw David Bowie: "It was like seeing an alien."

The founder of the Foo Fighters spoke about the experience of meeting one of his heroes

During an appearance on an Australian radio program , Dave Grohl recalled the first time he saw and met one of his great musical heroes: David Bowie .

The Foo Fighters founder recalled the almost surreal moment when he saw the Chameleon of Rock on stage for the first time at a festival in England. “I was in the photographers’ area and I looked at him and it was like seeing an alien,” he said. “You know? It was like seeing a UFO for the first time, in the sense of ‘Oh my God, it’s real. This is something I’ve never seen before.’”

Dave Grohl also spoke about the experience of spending time with Bowie in the studio and actually meeting his idol, whom he described as "a gentleman" and a "brilliant, sweet, kind and incredibly funny" person.

“And then I recorded a song with him. That was years ago, and seeing him take the microphone and start singing, you realize, ‘Wow, that voice – that’s real, it comes straight from his mouth, that iconic voice,’” Grohl comments. “The good part is that it really humanizes everything. You think, ‘Wow, this is a real person.’ It’s comforting, but at the same time you also think, ‘This is a hero.’ It’s not just another person. It’s David Bowie.”
