Scream

Dave Grohl's first album with Scream will be re-released.

No More Censorship was released 30 years ago.

In 1986, before joining Nirvana, the young Dave Grohl was part of a hardcore band called Scream. With them, the musician recorded his debut album titled No More Censorship.

Now, 30 years later, the album will be re-released by Southern Lord Records on April 27th. A version with remixed audio was released on Record Store Day Black Friday in 2017, but now, thanks to Southern Lord, the edition will be available to everyone under the name NMC17 (No More Censorship).

The audio included in the re-release was found by photographer Naomi Petersen and given to Pete Stahl, the band's vocalist, who later gave it to Dave Grohl, who worked with them at his studio, 606.

With a new name and a new cover, the edition will also include a booklet with photos, lyrics, and poems by the band members and will be pressed onto a gray vinyl record. In a statement, Pete Stahl said:

“This album was written and recorded during Ronald Reagan’s presidency. US foreign policy was destroying Central and Latin America. Art and music were being censored. Ed Meese, Ronald’s attorney general, was assigned to report on the effect of pornography on society. Testimony was heard in Congress about song lyrics and albums, and warnings were placed on album covers. One example is the Dead Kennedys, who were taken to court over the poster for their album Frankenchrist. Scream raised money to help the Dead Kennedys’ legal battle and participated in benefit events to raise money to fight oppression. Much of what happened at the time is still relevant today. History repeats itself.”
