Dave Grohl reveals that he "would like to sing like Adele or John Lennon"

Dave Grohl also stated that it took him "years to get over the attempt" to become a lead singer.

Foo Fighters frontman Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl has revealed his desire to "be able to sing like Adele or John Lennon ."

During his appearance on CBS Sunday Morning , Grohl was asked about insecurities related to the transition from drummer to vocalist. “I wanted to be able to sing like John Lennon, Adele, or Josh Groban ,” he replied. “I really would. But I was raised on very dissonant, loud, and crazy punk rock. Many of my favorite singers aren't even considered vocalists by many people.”

“They were just there to scream, but the raw passion of it was what I liked most, because I saw beauty in imperfection. And that’s something I love about our band. We have a saying here: ‘If something gets better, it’s going to get worse.’ It took me years to get over trying to become the lead singer.”

Grohl also explained that he never let anyone hear his songs in Nirvana because “I didn’t think they were very good. I didn’t like my voice, nor did I consider myself a songwriter, even though I was in a band with one of the greatest songwriters of our generation.”
