During an interview with Howard Stern last Tuesday, the 8th, Dave Grohl Nirvana bandmates , bassist Krist Novoselic and guitarist Pat Smear (via NME ).

Stern asked about the trio's relationship, and Grohl revealed that they are close and occasionally get together to play music. "Krist Novoselić is a pilot, he flies his own plane… He lives in the Pacific Northwest, and whenever he comes to Los Angeles – we always love seeing each other – we have dinner together."

He continued: “The last time he was here I made dinner for us. Pat is always around and the three of us, you know, we just like to be together. We like to see each other and if there are instruments around or a studio that’s available, we get together to play.”

Grohl made it clear that in these meetings they are not seeking to revive the classics from the Kurt Cobain . “We don’t like to stick to a big, old Nirvana setlist, we like to mess around and sometimes, as we’re messing around, songs just happen. And you know that if we’re in a studio, we’re recording. So, we recorded some things that are really cool. But we never did anything with it,” he revealed, emphasizing that there is no intention to release the material.

Asked if he does the vocals at these gatherings, Dave revealed that they don't have a vocalist, they just record the instruments. "It's very casual… There's no pressure to make something the world will have to hear, it's really just for fun, and a lot of it is really cool, you know?"

“When Krist Novoselić and I get together with him on bass and me on drums, it sounds like Nirvana. We make that sound when we play together.”
