Dave Grohl reveals he almost participated in Gwar: "I started designing my costume."

The drummer had the opportunity to join the band as a teenager and explained why he decided not to.

In an interview with Rolling Stone , Dave Grohl revealed that he almost joined the satirical thrash metal band Gwar as a teenager, when he still lived in the suburbs of Washington, D.C.

gore- style performances , graphic and offensive lyrics, and bizarre stage costumes, Gwar isn't exactly the most suitable band for a family concert, and that's precisely what prevented young Dave Grohl from accepting the invitation.

“Gwar was looking for a drummer and I spoke to their guitarist, Dewey Foo Fighters founder . “And he said, ‘That’s awesome and you can design your own outfit.’ As a drummer, you don’t want to wear something that completely covers your face and you want your arms free, so I thought, ‘Cool,’ and I started designing this outfit.”

“At the time, Gwar was a band that drew about 700 people [to a show], which was huge. And so, the more I thought about it, the more I questioned myself, 'Am I really going to invite my uncle to see me play at a show that has fake blood and semen everywhere?'” he concludes.

His career in Gwar didn't work out, but Dave Grohl's path eventually led him to Nirvana . The band forever defined the sound of the 90s and recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of their most celebrated album, Nevermind .
