Dave Grohl talks about his hearing problem: "My left ear is a little worse."

The founder of the Foo Fighters commented on the tricks he uses on stage

Hearing loss to some degree is a problem that many musicians have to deal with throughout their lives. In an interview with Howard Stern , Dave Grohl commented on the current state of his hearing problem.

“It’s been a long time since I had an exam, but I know they’ll say the damage, the tinnitus, is worse in my left ear than in my right. My left ear is a little worse because that’s where I play my snare drum and where the stage monitor is,” says the musician ( Loudwire ).

Dave Grohl also explained that he doesn't like using in-ear monitors on stage because they drown out the natural sound of the atmosphere. "I want to be able to hear the audience and turn around and hear Taylor and Pat and Chris . It messes with your sense of space when you're on stage," he says.

According to the musician, one way he manages to perform on stage despite his hearing impairment is by working with the same people and the same equipment for 31 years. "Even if I'm not using the monitor, the stage sound is perfect for me because it's the same guy, Ian Beveridge , for 31 years, since Nirvana ," he says.

Dave Grohl also assured that his hearing hasn't been affected when he's in the studio. "I can hear everything we do in the studio perfectly, but if I'm sitting next to you at the dinner table, I won't hear a word you say," he joked.
