Foo Fighters ' new album , Medicine At Midnight , Dave Grohl still has moments to reminisce about his past with Nirvana , and in a recent interview, he shares a characteristic that his current band lacks in relation to the legendary grunge group.

In an interview with Big Issue , he reveals that he felt a certain disconnect between himself, Kurt Cobain , and Krist Novoselic , but that the magic happened when they picked up their instruments. “Of course we loved each other. We were friends. But, you know, there was a dysfunction in Nirvana that a band like the Foo Fighters doesn't have. You also have to realize that from the time I joined Nirvana until it ended, it was only four years. It wasn't a long period of time. Was I as close to Kurt as I am to Taylor Hawkins ? No.”

“But that emotional dysfunction in Nirvana was relieved when we put on the instruments,” he continues, adding that nowadays he has a much closer relationship with Krist than when they were together in the band. “I truly believe that there are some people you can only communicate with musically. And sometimes it’s a better, deeper communication. There are people I may have felt a little awkward talking to, but from the moment we put on the instruments, it’s like they were the loves of my life.”
