Marilyn Manson and Dave Grohl

Dave Grohl believes Marilyn Manson contributed to the end of grunge.

The frontman spoke about the various phases of rock.

During an interview with radio station Alt 98.7, Dave Grohl spoke about the various phases that rock has gone through since the 80s.

There, the Foo Fighters spoke about glam rock, "there was a lot of glamour, all the guys had crazy hair, limousines, they were filming their videos with lots of girls, riding Harleys."

Speaking about grunge, he said: “and then there were these people who loved playing rock but had nothing to do with it. They were just some kids playing in the garage and writing songs. That kind of burned punk rock.”

“Then Marilyn Manson grows up, and you’re like, ‘oh cool, now you have something that’s really fantastic to see, it’s really exciting and really powerful’ (…) The hip hop scene took on all the glamour that rock and roll had in the 80s. Things happen in this cycle.”
