Lead singer Dan Reynolds criticized the need for people to laugh at the flaws of others.
Imagine Dragons vocalist Dan Reynolds responded to Corey Taylor 's criticism Slipknot frontman said that Reynolds' band had replaced Nickelback as the worst band in the world.
Reynolds reacted to that comment and to those of other artists such as the vocalists of the bands The 1975 and Foster The People :
For a decade I've been dealing with criticism from other bands being extremely harsh on mine. It's not what I'd call 'constructive criticism' (which I always do my best to receive and learn from). I call it clickbait crap. Words full of vileness and hatred designed to feed the human need to laugh at flaws and imperfections.
I kept quiet and endured it for years. This added to the depression I've dealt with since my youth. I don't say this seeking sympathy, but as a fact. It's not people who cause feelings of stress and depression, but what it does to the world that I and the band have created.
I assume that the guys from other bands (The 1975, Foster The People, Smashing Pumpkins , Slipknot, etc.) feel the need to talk badly about my band for some reason. I don't feel anger towards them, I feel more sadness that this industry embraces, even celebrates, this mentality.
My bandmates are some of my best friends. We are authentically ourselves. We try to bring positivity and empowerment to the world. We will continue to do exactly that.”
