Dan McCafferty , legendary vocalist and founder of the band Nazareth , died this Tuesday, November 8th, at the age of 76.
The news was confirmed in a Nazareth's social media Pete Agnew , the band's bassist. “This is the saddest announcement I’ve ever had to make. Maryann [his wife] and [Dan's] family have lost an incredible and loving husband and father, I’ve lost my best friend, and the world has lost one of the greatest singers that ever lived. I’m too heartbroken to say anything more than that right now,” he wrote.
Founded in 1968, the band had several hits in the 1970s and achieved international recognition with the 1975 Hair Of The Dog The Everly Brothers , achieved platinum certification in the United States with McCafferty's vocals.
The singer retired from the stage in August 2013 due to the worsening of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). His last album recorded with the band, called Rock 'n' Roll Telephone , was released in 2014. Since 2015, Nazareth has featured Carl Sentance on vocals and continues to tour.
Rest in peace, Dan!
