Initially, for headbangers who turn their noses up at Carnival season, Curitiba has the solution. The capital city hosts the most metal and punk Carnival in Brazil, with events throughout the city, including the famous Curitiba Metal Carnival , by BloodRock, one of whose organizers is businessman and musician Sérgio Mazul .
The event, which aims to please fans of original Brazilian extreme metal bands, took place on Sunday, March 2nd, and featured none other than: Royal Rage , Humanal , Atrocitus , Ethel Hunter , Criminal Action , and Siriusfall .
The event is a kind of 'Metal Reunion', a traditional BloodRock event to help promote local bands, but a special Carnival edition. It exceptionally takes place on Sundays, starting at 4 PM. After all, Monday is just around the corner, and with the organization always being punctual, the shows go smoothly.
In addition to the bands' fans, the public from the famous 'Zombie Walk', sponsored by the Curitiba City Hall, also participated. In 2025, the event featured a stage in the city center. There was no shortage of zombies, lots of fake blood, murderous nuns, and a whole theatrical carnage.
Siriusfall and Ethel Hunter
The band Siriusfall kicked off the festival. Very famous in Curitiba, the band is able to please everyone with their classic hard rock songs as well as their respected original compositions. They feature the likeable frontman Matheus Ribeiro on vocals, Edd Frank on guitar, Euri Sincler on keyboards, Neto Falcão on drums, and Victor Muller on bass, a very good substitute for the great Gabriel Ingles , who could not attend due to personal reasons.
After a short break, the band Ethel Hunter took the stage. It was impossible not to be impressed by the quality and professionalism of the group, which has been on the road since 2012 and has extensive experience in large events, managing to adapt to all audiences. They always exceed expectations, and for those who were oblivious to the show, just chatting, as soon as the band started playing, everyone turned to the stage.
Larissa Pires ' extreme and guttural vocals and the excellent musicians Hernan Rodrigo Borges on bass, Gerson Watanabe on guitars, and Weliton Lisboa on drums, keeping up with the band's fast-paced rhythm. Most of the time, the setlist, composed of original songs, is performed with few pauses, leaving no time for the audience to breathe. Long live Curitiba's death metal scene!
Royal Rage: The return of Curitiba's thrash metal
Royal Rage, a distinguished presence of the night, returns to the BloodRock stage after an extensive European tour. The band has excellent stage production and organization, but since it was Carnival, they decided to play according to the theme. And what a show for the eyes and ears!
The band, formed by Pedro Ferreira on guitar and vocals, Sol Perez on guitar, Airton Senna on bass, and Tiago Rodrigues on drums, showed why they've achieved worldwide success. Perfect technique, charisma, a sound accessible to all listeners of extreme metal, and also a more "light" sound. It's a shame that, with so many bands playing on this short Sunday night, the show was a little shorter than usual.
After Royal Rage played, we at Wikimetal managed to chat with some of the band members about their European tour. The highlight was their emotion when talking about a performance they did in a venue suspended over the Seine River in Paris. And now, the excitement of being back in Curitiba, cheered by the local audience. The last time Wikimetal covered a Royal Rage performance was almost a year ago, opening for the great Torture Squad at the same venue .
Criminal Action
A surprising band that took to the stage to get everyone moving with their perfect hard rock. After all, it wasn't the ideal night to stand still "thinking about life." Criminal Action is composed of Jean Pietro on vocals, Roger Vikz on guitar, Harley Andrich on bass, and Esmael Marques on drums. The band, with great charm, managed to please everyone present and liven up the night.
Atrocitus and Humanal: The most extreme bands from Curitiba
Finally, the last two bands of the night were Humanal and Atrocitus, respected bands in the Curitiba metal scene.
The first to take the stage was Humanal, who have been making a name for themselves nationally with their recent singles. Formed in 2020 in Curitiba, the band blends influences ranging from jazz to death metal into a dark and aggressive sound. All these themes are reflected in their lyrics, addressing issues of the human condition and social relationships.
Vocalist Tati Klingel is a spectacle in herself. Besides having a strong presence, her performances border on the supernatural while simultaneously incorporating human aggression into her music. The band also features talented and respected musicians André Florão , Maurício Echer , André Lazzaretti , and Rafael Barcellos .
After releasing the EP Humanal in 2022 and the single “A Resistência” in the same year, the group presented “Echoes of Ether” at the end of 2024, beginning a new phase that would culminate in the album Delirium . In March 2025, the second single, “Vanity,” was released.
Finally, Atrocitus takes the stage, always closing with a flourish. I usually call the band a "Curitiba firecracker," one of those that "blow your mind," that hypnotizes, delivers a killer instrumental performance, and makes the audience question their own condition and existence, using intelligent lyrics and ferocious live performances.
Currently, Atrocitus features Huan Cruz on vocals and bass, excelling in every aspect, Geert Giullian Strijker on guitar and vocals, and the outstanding Pettrus on drums. Anyone who has the opportunity to see the band for the first time simply gets hooked. Furthermore, the mosh pits they usually create at their shows are insane. Their setlist includes “Cicatriz”, “Repulsa”, “Existência”, and one of the highlights is “Peste” and “Alienado”.
Atrocitus and Humanal closing the night together
Finally, the traditional and much-anticipated jam session between Atrocitus and Humanal, flawless to any critic. It's easy to imagine them at a major festival. The most heavy metal Sunday night of Carnival ever!
