Many artists use art as a form of direct activism. Lacuna Coil , however, chooses a different path. The band prefers to keep their compositions free from political or religious preaching. Vocalist Cristina Scabbia TotalRock radio program “Louder ,” she argued that the band does not intend to act as a “teacher” for its audience.
When asked if the group planned to include social messages in the lyrics, Scabbia immediately denied it. According to the singer, the band only includes personal reflections in the tracks. They avoid strictly addressing politics or religion. Instead, they always opt for metaphors to convey feelings.
For the vocalist, the function of music differs from activism. She argues that art should serve as a tool for liberation. Music should uplift the spirit instead of dictating rules. Scabbia emphasized that the work should empower the listener. However, she reinforced that each fan should cultivate their own opinions. Nobody needs the band's validation or direction to live.
Personal perspective and new album
This artistic stance reflects Scabbia's personal views. She grew up in a Catholic environment in Italy. Today, however, she identifies with agnosticism and skepticism. The artist has stated that she trusts science more than religious dogma. For her, respect for others and ethical conduct are worth more than the fear imposed by institutions.
Meanwhile, Lacuna Coil continues to work intensely. The band released the album Sleepless Empire in February 2025 via Century Media Records. The work features significant collaborations. Furthermore, the group has renewed its energy on stage. Guitarist Daniele Salomone officially joined the band at the end of 2024, solidifying the new lineup.
