Originally released in May 1998, Cradle of Filth's Cruelty and the Beast is considered one of the greatest gothic black metal albums. Now, 21 years later, the work will be re-released with a new mix.
Scott Atkins of Grindstone Studio will remix and remaster the album for a new version to be released on November 1st by Music for Nations, a British record label. Speaking about the news, vocalist Dani Filth confessed to being proud of the work.
“It was released around the same time we were arrested in the Vatican (…) and it was a year of intense songwriting,” he says. Furthermore, Dani recalls that the album's concept was inspired by the story of Elizabeth Bathory .
The Hungarian countess went down in history for an alleged series of heinous and cruel crimes she supposedly committed, linked to her obsession with beauty. Terrifying!
