The singer reminisced about the time she was pregnant with Frances Bean, her daughter with Kurt.
In a new interview with the British edition of GQ , Courtney Love spoke about Kurt Cobain to leave Nirvana . She stated that the musician's wish was mainly motivated by the pressure created by the media.
“Nirvana began to dissipate after the 'Kurt and Courtney' phenomenon in Vanity Fair , something that really affected me,” he said, referring to Lynn Hirschberg's 1992 article that exposed the couple, when Courtney was still pregnant, calling them the new “Sid and Nancy” ( Sid Vicious , the late member of the Sex Pistols , and his then-girlfriend, Nancy Spungen ). “After that, Kurt became more reclusive, rehearsed less, and talked about breaking up the band, but that was just his way of reacting to the situation,” he continued.
“At the time, Dave [ Grohl , then Nirvana drummer and now Foo Fighters ] distanced himself because my life with Kurt had turned into a mess of lawyers, doctors, and drugs. We weren’t thinking about what was going to happen to Nirvana or Hole [ Courtney ’s band ]. We had to save our daughter.”
During the interview, Courtney also defended Cobain's position in the band. “There’s a myth that he didn’t want to be successful, and that’s a load of rubbish,” she said. “He worked very hard to form the right group. Kurt loved the fact that they made Michael Jackson fall in the charts, but he never really got to ride that wave because they wanted to take our daughter away from us. (…) Success can be great, but it also teaches you things the hard way.”
Recently, Courtney and her daughter, Frances, won a lawsuit prohibiting the release of photos from Kurt's death scene. In March, she made a cameo appearance in Marilyn Manson 's music video for "Tattooed in Reverse" .
