Courtney Love launched a YouTube series to perform covers of her favorite songs, starting with "California Stars" in an initiative called Bruises of Roses .
The artist began the project with Juliette Jackson during her recovery from a severe case of anemia that left her weighing only 43 kg and near death in August 2020.
In the performance of the first song chosen, "California Stars," originally released by Jeff Tweedy , the artist is accompanied by Juliette on the sofa at home, with their pet dog in her lap, for a minimalist version accompanied by acoustic guitar.
“It’s such a charming and fun song. I’m a fourth-generation Californian, and whenever I hear this, I’m reminded of places like Will Rogers State Park and the big cliffs above Salinas,” she told Vogue about her choice of the first track. “I’m a California girl and I’ll never stop being a California girl, so there’s a lot in this song for me.”
