Courtney Love has revealed some truths she's kept to herself for years. In an Instagram post, she denounced terrible situations she allegedly experienced with Dave Grohl and Trent Reznor , the leaders of Foo Fighters and Nine Inch Nails .
Kurt Cobain 's ex-wife recalled videos criticizing her, signed by both musicians. Furthermore, she cited numerous instances of abuse she endured, including being blamed by fans for her husband's death, and even suggested that Grohl used this to his advantage to extort money from her.
The music videos she mentioned are "I'll Stick Around" by Foo Fighters and "Starfuckers Inc." by Nine Inch Nails.
In “I'll Stick Around,” the original idea was to use a doll to represent Hole in a lyric that speaks to Grohl's point of view regarding the whole situation with Cobain. However, this was vetoed, but excerpts such as “How can I be the only one who sees your rehearsed insanity / I still refuse all the methods you abused” and “I don't owe you anything / I'll stick around and learn from everything that came from this” are just some of those that reference Courtney.
Dave confirmed in his biography that the lyrics were indeed about her, saying that "it was no secret." According to the artist, people should "just read the fucking words" to understand what he meant.
Reznor's song, on the other hand, is a critique of people who seek fame at any cost. The video for the track, directed by Marilyn Manson , uses a caricatured and ridiculed version of Courtney in humiliating situations to illustrate this point.
Courtney Love's ex-boyfriend said in an interview that the song was about everyone he thought was "full of shit" at the time, and the music video also makes references to Billy Corgan ( Smashing Pumpkins ) and Fred Durst ( Limp Bizkit ), as well as Manson himself and even Nine Inch Nails.
Courtney Love ended up deleting the Instagram post, but Twitter accounts posted screenshots of her text. Check out the translation below:
"Here are some receipts for some of the mega aggressions I've had to deal with, being belittled for, having processes that were within my rights stopped ('we are not doormats,' my sponsor [for addiction support] always quotes to me) due to male privilege in all its perverse toxicity. When Sharon Stone was asked if she had any #MeToo rights, she just laughed. We only have one, right?"
I've had enough of this [poop emoji] of these clowns scapegoating me for breathing, for my husband's death, for my 'exaggerated' sexuality, because I'm an addict, etc., and a WOMAN, for over 27 years.
Three months before I left LA, I signed a document that effectively gives Dave [Grohl] (and Krist [Novoselic]) my descendants' money forever. I was so broken. So scarred, so exhausted because of him, I just signed that shit. But it's a lie. So I'm withdrawing my signature. Because it doesn't make sense. The chaos and fury over Kurt's death being directed at me, diverted by Dave, while he got rich and continues to get rich, gorging himself on Kurt's fortune and Kurt's goodwill. 27! Years!!! I've had enough. Enough of being made small. And being 'forced' to 'just let it go' when it affects all generations of my descendants. Nicest guy in Rock? No.
Regarding Reznor, at least? He's talented but still disgusting. I've never seen so much systemic abuse of children, girls as young as 12, by him and his team, we all (Hole members) witnessed it. So while those two jerks aren't my #MeToo's because I'm saving mine (because we only have one), they come pretty close.
#GoToHelp Trent Reznor, Nine Inch Nails, Foo Fighters, I truly hope that my example of not staying silent in the face of them, making them stop, prevents any other woman (or man) from this level of personal and cultural abuse that destroys souls in the future. Sexually, spiritually, financially... #MeToo #Me3 #Me88 etc etc ad nauseam. [poop emojis and a praying hands emoji] #blessed? Yes, for breathing long enough to tell the story. I'm putting as much as possible into each song. Nam myoho renge kyo. 'We are not doormats.'"
