The coronavirus has been the most talked-about subject in recent weeks, and the number of cases has frightened a large part of the population.
COVID-19 has already been confirmed in more than 60 countries and has brought a mortality rate of 3.4% so far. Based on these numbers and other data, the WHO has classified the outbreak as a pandemic, and the chaos has only increased since then.
The spread of the virus has led to numerous trips to pharmacies in search of hand sanitizer and other products that can help prevent the disease. In addition, many flights are experiencing delays or cancellations, and as a result, much of the music industry has suffered.
With all the current chaos, bands have had to postpone or cancel tours, festival performances and other events, and various interactions between fans and artists, such as meet and greets, have also been canceled.
Here we list all the musical events that are being affected by the disease – we are always updating the list with news about the coronavirus and its effect on the music world.
IN BRAZIL:
Sammy Hagar: the first international artist to cancel a show in South America was the former Van Halen vocalist. He had dates scheduled throughout the continent , but had to cancel the tour due to the coronavirus. It is not yet known when the shows will be rescheduled.
Lollapalooza: Lollapalooza Brazil has been postponed to December 4-6, and according to the production company Time For Time, headliners Guns N' Roses, Travis Scott, and The Strokes are confirmed for the new dates. Meanwhile, the Argentinian and Chilean editions announced in early March that the festival will need to be rescheduled indefinitely due to the high number of coronavirus cases and the number of international artists in the lineup .
Offspring/Pennywise: the bands' show at Teatro Flores in Buenos Aires, Argentina, has been cancelled. The performance was scheduled for March 12th. UPDATE: the group announced this Saturday, the 14th, that all shows scheduled in Brazil have been cancelled and will be rescheduled once the country recovers.
Turilli/Lione Rhapsody: In a social media post, Fabio Lione announced that the shows scheduled for March in South America have been cancelled.
Converge: The metal and hardcore punk band has cancelled its shows scheduled for this month in Latin America. The band was to be joined by Tribal Seeds, who have also cancelled their tour.
Jinjer: The Ukrainian band was scheduled to perform in Brazil in March, but had to postpone the show to December 2020 due to the pandemic. The new dates will be confirmed and announced soon.
TesseracT : The group was scheduled to perform throughout South America in March, but also had to postpone the tour to avoid large gatherings. In São Paulo, they will perform on September 19th.
Crashdiet : The band's third visit to Brazil was also scheduled for March. Now, the South American tour will take place in September on the 24th in Belo Horizonte, the 25th in São Paulo, the 26th in Curitiba, and the 27th in Rio de Janeiro. More dates may be announced soon.
Ratos de Porão: the show that was supposed to take place on March 22nd, celebrating João Gordo's return after being hospitalized, had to be postponed, but a new date has not yet been set.
Sonata Arctica: power metal band has postponed their shows scheduled for early April to November of this year. New dates are expected to be announced soon.
Armageddon Metal Fest : the event, which was scheduled for May 30th, has been rescheduled for May 1st, 2021, due to the COVID-19 outbreak. All tickets already purchased will be valid for the new festival date.
Sons of Apollo, the progressive metal band, has postponed its Latin American tour, originally scheduled for April. The new dates have been set for July: July 3rd in São Paulo, at Tom Brasil, and July 5th at Circo Voador, in Rio de Janeiro.
TesseracT: Deprived of their performances by COVID-19, like so many other artists, the English band rescheduled their São Paulo show for September 19th. Following that, the group will tour Buenos Aires, Santiago, Bogotá, and Mexico City.
Metallica, the band that was scheduled to perform in Brazil in April, has announced that they will now come to the country in December, following recommendations from the production company responsible for the show, Live Nation. The tour will begin on December 14th in Porto Alegre at the FIERGS parking lot – originally, the group was to perform in April at the Arena do Grêmio, but due to the stadium's sporting calendar, the production company had to move the show to a different location. The group will then go to Curitiba to play on the 16th at the Couto Pereira Stadium, and then to the Morumbi Stadium in São Paulo on the 18th, and to the Mineirão Stadium in Belo Horizonte on the 20th.
Kiss: The End of The Road World Tour, marking the band's farewell to the stage, was scheduled to take place in the country between May 12th and 21st, and now has new dates in November of this year. Brasília, on November 10th at Ginásio Nilson Nelson; Uberlândia, on November 12th at Estádio Parque do Sabiá; São Paulo, on November 14th at Allianz Parque; Ribeirão Preto, on November 15th at Arena Eurobike; Curitiba, on November 17th at Pedreira Paulo Leminski; and Porto Alegre, on November 19th, location yet to be defined.
Emperor: The Norwegian band postponed their debut show in Brazil due to preventative measures to contain the spread of COVID-19. The performance was scheduled for May 28th at Tropical Butantã and has been rescheduled for November 26th at Audio in São Paulo.
IN THE WORLD:
Testament: the band had a show scheduled in Milan on February 25th and has not yet set a new date.
Lacuna Coil: After their tour of Latin America, the group was scheduled to perform in Dubai, Bangkok, Melbourne, Sydney, Tokyo, Osaka, Singapore, and Jakarta. All of these shows were cancelled.
Marilyn Manson: The singer canceled his show scheduled for March 18th in Hong Kong, but without citing the coronavirus as the reason.
Slipknot: We Are Not Your Kind tour have been cancelled. Shows in Asia will need to be rescheduled, as well as the Knotfest festival that was to take place in Japan.
Trivium: the group was scheduled to visit Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and begin a tour of Europe. All of these dates have been cancelled.
Machine Head: with several dates scheduled in Europe, the group had to cancel all of them, including those in the United Kingdom, which was supposed to have its first show on April 19th.
Papa Roach, the band that was touring Europe, had to cancel the last five shows of the tour after European governments refused to allow "events with large gatherings of people."
Pearl Jam: In a statement on social media, the group announced that they had to postpone some dates of their North American tour promoting the album Gigaton, scheduled for release on March 27th.
The message to fans is poignant and reads: “It is with deep frustration and regret that we are forced to make this most unfortunate announcement. It certainly hasn’t helped that there are no clear messages from our government regarding the safety of the people and our ability to do our job. Without examples of our national health department’s ability to anticipate the situation, we have no reason to believe it will be under control in the coming weeks.”
The Who: The British group was preparing to perform eleven shows across the UK when they had to cancel the dates, including their performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London on March 28th, in support of the Teenage Cancer Trust .
Green Day: The trio canceled their entire Asian tour due to concerns about crowds and the travel involved, including canceling shows in countries that have not yet had confirmed cases of coronavirus.
Kiss: Before announcing the cancellation of the last three shows of the End of the Road , Kiss had to cancel all meet and greets for the tour, fearing it would worsen the situation. The shows that were to take place in the US were rescheduled for October.
Set it Off: The group canceled their Asian tour and the dates for the shows where they were supposed to open for Jimmy Eat World.
South by Southwest (SXSW): the technology and culture event that has been held in Austin, Texas for 34 years, had to cancel its entire program at the request of the Austin government. Companies, artists, and fans had planned to attend the event.
Coachella, one of the biggest festivals in the United States, had to postpone its 2020 edition to October. The event was scheduled to take place on the weekends of April 10-12 and 17-19, but due to coronavirus cases worldwide, including in the city where the festival is held, the dates have been cancelled.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: The annual induction event has been postponed to November 7th, with the “health and safety of our guests and artists” in mind, according to Hall of Fame President Joel Peresman. The ceremony was originally scheduled for May 2nd at Cleveland's Public Hall.
The Hellacopters: On March 13th, the Hellacopters were scheduled to perform at Teatro Flores in Buenos Aires, Argentina, however, the show was cancelled. The show in São Paulo on the 14th is confirmed, according to a statement from the band on social media.
Between the Buried and Me: the American progressive metal band had to cancel their show at Uniclub in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on March 14th. This information comes from the production company California Sun. The remaining dates of their South American tour remain unchanged.
The Decibel Tour, which was to bring Mayhem, Abbath, Gatecreeper, and Idle Hands to Seattle and San Francisco in the United States, has been canceled due to bans on gatherings imposed by authorities in those cities.
Inferno Metal Festival: The Inferno festival, which takes place in Norway between April 9th and 12th, has announced the cancellation of its 2020 edition after the country banned all public events until the end of April, a period that could be extended by four or five months. According to a statement from the Inferno organization, it is likely that the event will not take place, as it is unknown when the country will resume hosting events.
Tool: The band has postponed two shows they were scheduled to perform in the United States: March 14th in Idaho and March 16th in Utah. Both are part of the band's North American tour in support of their 2019 album Fear Inoculum . According to a statement from the band on social media, they have chosen to adopt a "one day at a time" approach and have not yet changed the dates for the rest of the tour.
Rage Against the Machine: the first leg of the band's comeback tour has been postponed. The shows, originally scheduled between March 26 and May 20, have been rescheduled indefinitely. Performances scheduled for July and August remain unchanged at this time.
Pixies: The final leg of the band's Australian tour has been postponed indefinitely. The band has asked fans to keep their purchased tickets, as they will reschedule the shows.
Iggy Pop: The singer has postponed a large part of his French tour, with some shows already rescheduled for September. The remaining dates should be announced soon.
Live Nation: The company has advised all the artists it produces to cancel current tours until the end of March. The production company will review the dates in early April.
Pussy Riot: The group was scheduled to begin their North American tour on March 12th, but the dates had to be canceled and, according to a statement, are expected to be rescheduled for the second half of the year.
Record Store Day: the event, which aims to showcase new album and vinyl releases from artists, was originally scheduled for April, however, it has a new date set for June 20th.
Sepultura: The Brazilian band was about to embark on a North American tour to promote their recently released album, Quadra. Due to the spread of the virus, the group announced that it will postpone all dates, with no new date yet announced.
Glastonbury, one of the world's largest and oldest festivals, has announced that the 2020 edition, which would have celebrated the event's 50th anniversary, has been cancelled. The festival was scheduled to take place between July 24th and 28th at Worthy Farm, in the United Kingdom. Learn more here.
Foo Fighters: the band was scheduled to tour to celebrate their 25th anniversary, but had to cancel all shows.
Rolling Stones were scheduled to embark on a North American tour before the coronavirus outbreak reached enormous proportions. Now, the Stones are awaiting news to reschedule the dates.
Download Festival: the 2020 edition of the festival is officially cancelled, and according to the organizers, the event will only take place in 2021. The rock and heavy metal was scheduled to take place from June 12th to 14th in Castle Donington, England, and would have featured headliners such as Iron Maiden, Kiss and System of a Down.
