In an interview with the website Audio Boom, Stone Sour vocalist Corey Taylor confirmed that the band is working on new music and should release their sixth album in mid-2017. Taylor spoke about the new compositions, describing them as "more Hard than Heavy":
“I’m so excited. Oh my God. We’re going to start recording in January and keep recording for a few months, and I hope to release it in the middle of next year. And it will be the first album we’ll record with Chow, our new bassist, and Christian Martucci, our new guitarist. And it’s fantastic. I mean, we already have eighteen songs written. And it’s some of the best material we’ve ever written. And it’s so good, it’s like an amalgamation of all the styles we love. It has a bit of Heavy, as we like, but it’s also much more Hard Rock, much more Rock N’ Roll and Hard Rock than Heavy. It even has a bit of Punk. And it has an energy that will blow away a lot of what’s going to be released next year. That’s how excited I am.”
