Corey Taylor

Corey Taylor of Slipknot talks about his struggle with addiction.

“I’m starting to accept the fact that there are dark parts of my chapters that I have to let go of,” said Corey Taylor

Corey Taylor , vocalist for Slipknot and Stone Sour , opened up about his battle with addiction. He also spoke about how the road to recovery impacted Slipknot's upcoming album.

Taylor said the next album is the band's "darkest chapter." In terms of sound and energy, it fits somewhere "between the first album and Iowa ."

Always open about his struggles with depression and having been abused as a child, the vocalist revealed that his recovery has had a positive impact on the band and their music.

“I’m looking at the world with a clearer vision,” he said. “I’m also beginning to accept the fact that there are dark parts of my past that I need to forget. If it weren’t for all these bad things happening to me, I wouldn’t be who I am now.”

This made me deal with the fact that I'm an addict. Deal with the fact that, at 40, I have children and need to take care of them. I'm dealing with all these crazy things in life that make me 'me'. Still, I should be embracing the fact that I'm alive. Embracing the fact that I'm a father, that I have two great bands.”

Regarding the balance between being a recovering addict and a functioning adult and artist, Taylor continued: “It’s good, man. It’s allowed me to enjoy life. To get out of my own head and enjoy the things I have. I’m not saying it’s been the death of desire or anything like that, but it’s made me take advantage of the time I have and like myself.”

“I was never a big fan of Corey Taylor, until about last year. But actually, there’s a lot about me that’s really, really cool. I’ve been lucky to have great people around me encouraging me and saying, ‘We’ve been telling you this for years.’”
