Metallica , and it's no accident. After so many years in the business, the group continues to innovate, expand, and reinvent itself constantly. And the one who kept this in mind and takes it as inspiration for his career with Slipknot was frontman Corey Taylor .
In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music , the artist states, "If there's any band that we respect, I mean, there are obviously many bands, but Metallica was definitely, they were the highest benchmark."
“They were a band to aspire to. That was basically our benchmark. But we took so much from so many other bands, though, that I also think it would be unfair to say that it was only Metallica that guided us,” he continues.
Highlighting the band's importance, Corey revealed the attributes of the band that most inspired him, "They keep finding ways to break new records, playing on every continent. They will be the first band to play on Mars, I'm convinced of it."
When questioned about the controversy surrounding the album St. Anger , the artist defends the album, stating, “The thing is. If you listen, they released a DVD of them in a rehearsal room playing all the songs from that album and it sounds fantastic. It’s great… That’s what made me appreciate those songs from that album,” Taylor explains. “I listened to it in that context. I was like, ‘Man, “Sweet Amber” is a classic!’ Like, this song is a super hit. ‘Sweet Amber, how sweet are you?’ (…) I mean, sometimes technology, and I’ve said this from day one, will suck the atmosphere out of any album if you let the computer do most of the work.”
