Corey Taylor shares heartwarming fan story about seeing his mask

A fan revealed that they used a similar mask when they suffered third-degree burns

With the band's new cycle approaching, Slipknot has swapped out all of their masks, and Corey Taylor hasn't received the best reviews.

Many didn't appreciate the simplicity of the vocalist's mask, who usually sports the most elaborate and frightening ones in the group. But for one fan in particular, Taylor's new mask meant a lot.

On Reddit, a fan shared a story that moved the musician, who ended up sharing it on his social media. The user ClpUrbz revealed that he suffered a third-degree burn on his face in a fire when he was only five years old, forcing him to wear a mask similar to Taylor's.

“Corey’s mask may not be what some wanted, but for me it’s a very big image of a character’s change and transformation. The breaking down of a person and the necessary steps to become better. It’s not scary, but this mask, my mask, transformed me into a bulletproof person, stronger than I could have been before I had to put it on,” he says.

Corey Taylor heard about the story and, upon sharing it, said on Twitter: “Wow. I’m so moved by this story, and I’m so glad someone was able to explain something I was trying to describe. This album is really about rising above the pain and being reborn. And the mask is also a reflection of that.”
