Corey Taylor , vocalist for Slipknot and Stone Sour, CMF2 , this Friday, the 15th .
The work was done in collaboration with colleagues Eliot Lorango (bass), Dustin Robert (drums), Zach Throne (guitar) and Christian Martucci (guitar).
Taylor and company worked alongside producer Jay Ruston on a set of songs that blends the singer's musical influences. There are touches of Alice in Chains , as in "Dead Flies," a fast punk rock sound (featuring Taylor's own guitar) in "Talk Sick," an alternative heavy metal track ("Beyond"), and references to his acoustic/folk influences like Ani DiFranco and Ray LaMontagne ("Breath of Fresh Smoke").
The songs were recorded live with some overdubbing, giving the album a raw, live sound that is becoming increasingly rare in modern hard rock. Taylor credited Ruston for achieving this.
“That’s what sets him apart from all the modern producers, so to speak, because they rely heavily on computers to get talent,” Taylor told Consequence . “This ends up sounding like a straight line from point A to point B, where Jay knows how to create the journey with us.”
The album's release comes amid Taylor's solo tour in the United States, which runs until October 7th at the Aftershock festival in Sacramento, California.
CMF2 is the successor to CMFT , which was released in 2020 and also produced by Jay Ruston.
