Corey Taylor said that his second solo album, the successor to CMFT (2020), “will be the best rock album of this year and next year.” The project is scheduled for release in September, while the lead single “Beyond” is expected in May.
“I can’t wait for people to hear this album. It chews up that first album and spits it out. It’s more connected to everything people expect from me, so it has elements of CMFT , but also Slipknot , Stone Sour , and all the things I did in my acoustic shows. It has something for everyone. People are going to go crazy,” he said in an interview with NME .
“Some fans will recognize some tracks from other projects I’ve done, while others were written right before we went into the studio. I was really inspired by my band, but also by the reaction to the first solo tour, where people enjoyed everything. They liked the acoustic material, they liked the heavy material, they liked the fun material. We wanted to do something hybrid, but not something that seemed chaotic.”
The recordings for the album, produced by Jay Ruston , began in January in Las Vegas. At the end of February, bassist Eliot Lorango used social media to announce that they had been completed. The post can be seen at the end of this article.
Corey Taylor gave more details about what to expect from the tracklist, which will feature 13 of the 26 tracks produced: “The things that inspire me the most come from the things I grew up listening to; street hip-hop, punk, metal, and anything that seems to have come from somewhere that I can relate to and identify with. There’s a dark and solemn acoustic song called 'Sorry Me' that has a very old-school vibe. 'Talk-Sick' still has an '80s feel, but it’s more of a Guns N' Roses . The first single, 'Beyond,' is going to leave people speechless. This album is definitely another punch in the face.”
Recently, the vocalist had already commented that the sound of the new album would be "heavier and faster" .
