Music isn't the only thing that can inspire a musician's art, and for Corey Taylor , horror movies are a big part of his references.
In an interview for the SYFY Metal Crush Mondays , host Whitney Moore asked the vocalist what came first: heavy metal or horror movies? “It was horror, actually,” Corey stated. “My mom took me to see Gil Gerard in the movie Buck Rogers in the 25th Century when I was a kid. I must have been four or five years old… but the trailer that played beforehand was for John Carpenter ’s Halloween .”
“You had those incredible visuals, the feeling that it’s autumn, it’s Halloween, and you have this guy in the background of every scene. I can remember as a five-year-old kid just standing there. Like, out of nowhere, I didn’t care about Buck Rogers . I think it was a defining moment that really galvanized my taste in my young mind of what I thought was cool. It was actually a few years later that I got to watch [the movie] and to this day it’s one of my favorites,” reveals the singer.
