Corey Taylor , vocalist of Slipknot , expressed his admiration for Metallica in a recent interview. The singer is one of 53 guests invited to participate in The Blacklist , a special re-release of The Black Album commemorating the 30th anniversary of the band's fifth album.

In Taylor's view, the impact of thrash metal giants like Metallica, Megadeth , Slayer , and Anthrax was definitive for the 1980s generation. “That was the sonic trigger for a whole new generation of fanatics, because those bands appealed to so many different types – I don't want to say 'cliques,' but they appealed to so many different audiences. Punk kids loved them, metal kids idolized them,” he commented to Knotfest (via Blabbermouth). “But even alternative types liked it, because there was so much ferocity in it and there was something that was just different.”

Looking back at the rise of these bands and the musical genre, the singer pointed out that this period was "a growing explosion of attitude, fast music" and rebellion. "We knew that as soon as our parents heard it, they hated it, which made us love it even more. Nothing is better than listening to something that terrifies adults," he said.

Among the most memorable albums, Corey Taylor chose Master Of Puppets (1986), Metallica's third album, as "the perfect heavy metal album." The flaw? "The only bad part is that it's too short. Before you know it, it's over, and you think, 'Wait a minute,' and you have to start all over again. So it's crazy. It's a very, very beautiful album," he praised.
