Corey Taylor , frontman of Slipknot , spoke in an interview on the FeedbackDef about the band's financial situation. He said that "in a strange way, we don't make much money" ( via Blabbermouth ).
“I mean, we earn enough to live on, obviously, and we can live comfortably, but we’ve never been offered big deals. There are many of us in the band and there’s a whole crew we have to pay. There’s the production we have to pay for. There’s all this crap we need to pay for. So, at the end of the day, we get paid pretty much proportional to what we’re worth.”
The vocalist further explained the situation: “We’ve never even come close to the big paychecks that athletes, actors – all that stuff – get. So, in a strange way, we’re kind of – if you adjust for inflation, we’re basically upper middle class. We’re not extravagant. We’re not rich by any means, but we’re okay. I can take care of my family. Their education is guaranteed. I have insurance for all my children. And really, that’s it.”
When asked why Slipknot didn't make absurd amounts of money, Corey Taylor added: “Maybe it’s because we’re so reactionary. Maybe it’s because we’re not palatable to a mass audience. We appeal to our genre and to people on the periphery of our genre, but that’s it.”
“We’ve appealed to a lot of them, so we’ve done well, but we’ll never see Taylor Swift’s fucking money, shit like that. So the misconception that all rock stars are rolling in dough isn’t true. There’s a reason we have to tour as much as we do, because that’s the only way we can actually pay our fucking bills.”
Union of the group
Corey Taylor was asked in an interview why Slipknot is still together, even after so many years, to which he replied: “ (...) I think it’s about the fact that we still have that determination to make music, to be on stage and do the best we can.(...) ”
The band recently changed its lineup following the departure of keyboardist Craig Jones . The identity of his replacement has not yet been revealed .
