Taylor spoke about the masks for Slipknot's new phase
Corey Taylor , vocalist of Slipknot , spoke about the band's new costumes, revealed last week . The outfits are part of a new phase begun in preparation for the album We Are Not Your Kind , which will be released on August 9th.
The singer worked on the new mask with special effects legend Tom Savini . Savini's career includes films such as Friday the 13th , Dawn of the Dead, From Dusk Till Dawn , and others.
Regarding the inspiration for the new mask, Corey said: “I remembered that sometimes you get the worst from people. Even when you expect the best. I felt like a villain at times, in a strange way. And that’s okay. It’s inevitable and it doesn’t bother me much. But at some point, it did bother me. I always tried to be a good father, a good man, a good person. I went through some shit a few years ago and some people changed their opinion of me.”
He continued, “I said, ‘Okay, if you want a villain, you’ll get a fucking villain.’ My vision was to create something uncomfortable – not just to wear, but for people to look at. I wanted it to look like something created in someone’s basement – something created specifically to fuck with people. It’s a representation of public opinion. It always wants to tear people down for the way they live. Even if it doesn’t really know them. It’s liberating to embrace that side and think, ‘Fuck off. I don’t care what you think about me!’”
