Taylor said in an interview that he listens to a lot of jazz from the 40s and 50s
During a radio appearance, Corey Taylor was asked if he would ever do a crossover with country music. The Slipknot and Stone Sour replied: “No. Even coming from Iowa, definitely not.”
Taylor said he could write songs in that style, but that his interest would be more as a vocalist or songwriter. “I’d like to put together a quartet or a quintet and make a jazz record. Like a dark jazz album. And record it live in a bedroom. It wouldn’t sell anything. It would just be for my personal collection,” he said.
“I love jazz. A lot of people don’t realize that – I listen to a lot of jazz from the 40s and 50s. And there’s… the haunting stuff Billie Holiday did, the old stuff Charlie Parker did. He was quite troubled – that’s the kind of thing I’d get into. And there are jazz versions of my own songs that I’d love to try. Something like ‘Prosthetics’ [by Slipknot] I think would be really, really cool. A jazz version of ‘Bother’ would also be pretty cool.”
