Has Corey Taylor ever been close to leaving the band at any point?
There were definitely tense moments for the group before they achieved the fame they have now. In an interview with Kerrang!, the lead singer spoke about those times.
“There were times when I was very close to leaving the band,” he said. “I’m really glad I didn’t, honestly. The reward has been fantastic, especially now that we’re in this place and performing at this level, which is still the best of all.”.
He recalled during the recording of their first album in 1999 when he almost gave up on everything.
“When we blew up, we had serious conversations about splitting up and doing like the Sex Pistols : releasing a great album and saying, ‘screw you, we’re leaving!’”, he said.
“Certainly, there were more tense moments than good ones,” he said. “We’re very frantic; we all come from different musical, cultural, and environmental backgrounds. It was quite difficult.”.
He continued: “But what I’ve noticed as we’ve continued to do this is that we’ve allowed ourselves to recognize how good we are. We’ve allowed ourselves to distance ourselves from stoicism and embrace ourselves.”
Recently, guitarist Jim Root spoke about how he "gave up having a family" to stay in the band. "I gave my whole life to this band," Root said.
