Corey Taylor spoke for an hour with Trevor , a Slipknot with a terminal illness. The virtual meeting was made possible thanks to the Living the Dream Foundation , an NGO that aims to fulfill the dreams of at-risk, disadvantaged, and marginalized youth.
Sadly, Trevor died from brain cancer a few weeks after the conversation with the musician. Last Friday, the 18th, the NGO shared the story of the encounter.
“This is our extraordinary guest, Trevor. He was battling terminal brain cancer, and for #DreamDay he met his favorite singer, Corey Taylor! Corey was so kind and generous, talking with Trevor about Star Wars and monster trucks for over an hour,” the institution wrote. “Throughout the conversation, you could see Trevor’s body language and energy light up with enthusiasm and joy.”
“Trevor fought through pain to pursue his passions and spend more time with his loved ones. We honor his life by showing the world what a strong, confident, funny, and loving guy he was. His struggle inspires us all to seize each day and live life to the fullest. Our hearts are with Trevor’s family and friends. Special thanks to Corey Taylor for taking the time to make Trevor’s dream come true.”
In addition to discussing Trevor's story, the foundation also published an excerpt from their conversation. In the video, the two talk about skydiving, and at one point, the Slipknot singer tells the boy: “I admire your attitude, man. You have a lot of courage.” Trevor responded to Corey Taylor that he wanted to “enjoy life and fulfill as many dreams as possible.” See below.
Founded by musician Scottie Somers , who battles cystic fibrosis, the organization also counts Vic Fuentes , lead singer of Pierce the Veil , as CEO.
