The lead singer said the problem is how the services pay the artists

Corey Taylor commented during an interview with Rock Feed on why Tool took so long to make their music available on streaming platforms. According to the Slipknot and Stone Sour , the problem lies in how streaming services pay artists.

“We don’t have a problem with streaming,” he said. “We don’t have a problem with people listening to our music. What bothers us is streaming services treating us like we owe them something.”.

Asked how to solve this problem, the musician said: “They [streaming services] have to come together and stop appealing to the legislation they already make to pay us better. There’s a reason why Tool took so long to use streaming platforms. It’s because they knew they wouldn’t be rewarded for something they worked hard for.”

“For me, two things are happening with this Tool thing. First, this is the perfect time [for them to use the platforms] because they have a new album to release soon; and second, they probably made a deal with the record label that guarantees they'll get a share of the money (…) That's because, normally, that money goes straight to the record label and doesn't reach us.”

Tool's highly anticipated fifth album, Fear Inoculum , will be released on August 30th. It's still unknown whether the album will be automatically available on streaming platforms, but it's possible, as the band recently authorized the sharing of their entire discography.
