Corey Taylor: "You don't need to be high to have fun"

The Slipknot vocalist spoke about drug abuse

Slipknot vocalist Corey Taylor recently appeared on an episode of the Marshall Podcast. Among the topics discussed, Taylor spoke about drug abuse.

The frontman, who has struggled with addiction-related excesses, said about the subject: “I think this is encouraged by people who are really into drugs. They want people to think it’s difficult to create without chemicals. And that’s addict language, because I used to do that for myself from a performance standpoint. I was convinced I couldn’t perform if I didn’t have a Jack and Coke – at least one. So, that eventually became two shots. And then, that became half a bottle. That’s addiction. I think it’s a myth perpetuated by addicts who seek out people to reinforce their dependence…”

Corey continued: "I only got high in the studio twice and I didn't like it at all, because I couldn't control anything," he said.

“Listening to old stuff again, I was like, ‘Oh, this is awful. Why did I do this?’ So, I really tried to kill that myth for people… If that’s what you think, then God bless you; that’s fine. If that’s what works for you, that’s what works for you. I’m not going to convince you otherwise. However, it’s not law. You don’t need to be high to create, damn it. You don’t need to be high to have fun, I think you sound better and play better and you have better energy when you’re not high…”
