In a Q&A session at the Jo Ann Davidson Theatre in Ohio, Corey Taylor was asked about his favorite band from the "big four" of grunge ( Soundgarden , Alice in Chains , Pearl Jam , and Nirvana ) and promptly replied:
"It has to be Alice in Chains. For me, they are one of the greatest rock bands that ever existed. And I'm not just talking about grunge or metal. They revolutionized so much musically and they inspired me to change the way I write about music. End of discussion, period, that's it."
The Slipknot also expressed his admiration for Layne Staley , stating that he "is still one of the greatest singers who ever lived" and revealed that his favorite song is "Would?", despite "Nutshell" being an "overflow of an attempt to share the darkness that was in [Staley's] heart."
“That’s the great tragedy of people like Layne. Not just him, of course; there are many who came from that generation of artists,” reflects Corey Taylor. “The pain they dealt with – some of them overcame it and others didn’t. But the good part is that we can listen to their music and that can help us overcome our own pain.”
“I don’t think I go a day without listening to Alice In Chains,” he continues. “It’s just so good. And the fact that I’m meeting these guys now is just the icing on the cake. It’s amazing to be able to spend time with your favorite band.”
