Corey Taylor opens up to the audience

The Rock to Recovery event held its second edition this weekend, and this year's honoree was Corey Taylor.

Seeking to highlight celebrities who have overcome their addictions, Rock to Recovery makes donations to numerous support centers. You can learn more about the organization here .

The vocalist of Slipknot and Stone Sour speaks openly about the problems he went through, and thanks to his great visibility in the music world, he was honored with the purpose of serving as an example of overcoming adversity.

After being introduced by Wesley Geer (ex-Korn) and Sonny Mayo (Snot and ex-Sevendust), Corey took to the stage and delivered a moving speech.

“It’s been eight years, and you put everything into perspective. You have a lot of time to think. Trial and error becomes a way of life. You question yourself every day about who you are and why. (…) The good thing about this program [Rock to Recovery] is that it removes the stigma of trying to be a better person, trying to be a stronger, healthier person. It takes away that feeling of being alone when you’re actually surrounded by people going through the same situation. It helps you enjoy things again, which is very difficult when you think everything is more fun when you’re screwed. It’s not. In fact, it’s better when you have everything in order, or at least try to.”

He also says that his first experience with alcohol was at age five, and with drugs at age eleven.

Taylor also remembers friends he lost, such as Paul Gray, and gets emotional, ending his speech with, “One day at a time. And every day is a gift. So thank you for receiving this gift with me .
