Corey Taylor comments on his solo album and cites Johnny Cash and Alice in Chains as inspirations.

The vocalist also revealed that the album should be released later this year.

Corey Taylor, vocalist for Slipknot and Stone Sour , is a busy man. Besides fronting both bands, he's taking advantage of Slipknot's forced We Are Not Your Kind to finally work on his first solo album.

In an interview with Terry “Beez” Bezer on Mosh Talks With Beez , the vocalist revealed who is accompanying him on this journey: Jason Christopher on bass, Dustin Schoenhofer on drums, and Zach Throne and Christian Martucci on guitars. He also said that he intends to release his solo debut in September of this year.

“It was something I was planning for next year when I finished touring with Slipknot, but obviously, plans changed,” he says, recalling that the tour was canceled due to the pandemic. “But I thought, why not try to do it now (…) This is something I’ve been working on for a while. These are things I wrote recently on tour with Slipknot and some before that… There’s one I wrote when I was in high school, so you can see how long I’ve been planning this.”

Taylor said the band recorded 25 songs in two and a half weeks, but only 13 made the final cut, seven of which were covers and six were originals. “It’s everything I wanted it to be,” he confessed, commenting on the album's musical direction, “It has a bit of Slade in it, a bit of Johnny Cash , a bit of Alice in Chains . I mean, strong choruses, fun rock, and huge solos – huge. It’s unbelievable.”

He revealed that one of the songs will be one he wrote for his wife after teaching himself to play the piano, and that before the album's release, he will release two singles. All we can do is wait, right? Watch the full interview below.
