Corey Taylor: "Politicians who blame music and video games for mass shootings are idiots."

Slipknot's vocalist refuted recent accusations that mass shootings are related to music

Corey Taylor , vocalist of Slipknot , called politicians who blame music for mass shootings in the US "idiots".

Recently, Donald Trump said that "shocking and frightening video games" contribute to a "culture of violence." The comment was made in response to two mass shootings that occurred in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, on the same day.

Asked about the subject in an interview, Taylor said: “I think they’re idiots. These people subscribe to the ‘three D’s of politics,’ which is deny, detract, and deflect. That’s exactly it. From the moment guns came back into the spotlight, the first thing the Republican Party and the gun lobby do is blame everything but the guns themselves. It’s video games, heavy metal, mental illness… But it’s not video games. There are video games everywhere in the world; people don’t have those problems. Well, then it’s heavy metal. There’s heavy metal everywhere in the world too, in many places it’s even heavier than ours. But they don’t have that problem there.”

Corey also spoke about the problems with guns. “In the US there are too many guns. We deify them and fetishize them. Now, if you try to get rid of some guns, it becomes a threat. That, to me, borders on addiction. Think about it. Do you really believe in the right to own guns or are you just addicted to the way you feel when you have them?”
