Corey Taylor calls Maroon 5's Adam Levine an “idiot”

The "disagreement" with Corey Taylor occurred after Levine's statements about rock music

Corey Taylor called Adam Levine an idiot after the Maroon 5 said the rock scene suffers from a lack of innovation.

In an interview with Variety , Levine was asked which genre he and the band fit into: pop, rock, or urban. He replied: “Something unique about our band is that we’ve always looked to hip-hop, R&B, all rhythmic forms of music. Ever since we were writing the first album. Rock isn’t really anywhere. I don’t know where it is. If it’s around, nobody invited me to the party.”

All the innovation and amazing things happening in music are in hip-hop. It's better than everything else. Hip-hop is weird and avant-garde and erratic and real. That's why people love it.”

Levine added: “My goal is to make music that doesn’t sound dated 10 years later. My main criterion for a song is, can I live with it forever? If I can’t, I don’t have the heart to make it. It’s that simple.”

A fan tagged Taylor on Twitter saying that Levine's comments had "enraged" him so much that the Slipknot vocalist needed to respond. Corey gladly did so. "Just because you say you have 'Jagger's moves' doesn't mean you come close to Mick Jagger's rock. Tell that idiot to go back to that shitty The Voice.".

Producer Jay Rouston , who has worked with Stone Sour , Anthrax , and Steel Panther , chimed in. “When Adam Levine or anyone of that genre manages to sell out stadiums around the world like Metallica , Muse , Slipknot , Iron Maiden , Rammstein , AC/DC , Guns N' Roses or The Rolling Stones , then I’ll care what he has to say about the death of rock.”

Taylor previously dismissed the idea that rock is dead in an interview. “Rock and metal aren’t dead. They’re just waiting to kill you. And I’m serious. It’s an ebb and flow. It’s like that every – what? – ten or fifteen years. There’s an ebb. But it’s definitely coming back.”
