Hangar 110 is the home of hardcore in São Paulo, there's never been any doubt about that, and after the incredible Comeback Kid last Saturday, the 24th, there's no room for dispute.
The Canadian band returned to Brazil, once again thanks to Solid Music Entertainment, with support from the Brasília-based Never Look Back and the Santa Catarina-based The Last Station. These bands were a perfect fit to warm up the audience for the main show of the night.
The opening act was Never Look Back, composed of Kenji Matsunaga (vocals), Marcelo Maia (drums), Rique Martins (guitar and vocals), and Fábio Alexandre (bass). The group delivered a solid show while Hangar 110 began to fill up. The band has toured Latin America, Central America, and Europe, playing with important names in the scene and bringing Brazilian hardcore to the international spotlight. The performance marked Fábio Alexandre's farewell from the band.
The Last Station was the second act and, visibly emotional, cited the realization of a long-held dream, saying that when they started the band 12 years ago, they shared a dream that came true there, playing on the stage of the birthplace of several bands that influenced them. The band consists of Gustavo Salles , Gui Ouriques , Zeh, and Iran Marcondes .
Anxiety took over as soon as the second opening act ended; fans were already planning the mosh pit and stage dives, but no one present was ready for what was to come. As soon as vocalist Andrew Neufeld took the stage with Jeremy Hiebert , Stu Ross (guitars) Chase Brenneman (bass), and Loren Legare Phil Collins ' "In The Air Tonight" as an introduction to "Heavy Steps," the song that also gives its name to their most recent studio album.
From the very first minute of the show, fans roamed the stage, throwing themselves into the middle of the giant mosh pit that opened up there. The atmosphere of the show (besides the heat) was insane. The band didn't give the fans a break, playing one song after another, leaving everyone there dripping with sweat and a smile on their face. Andrew Neufeld was impressed by the atmosphere of the show, mentioning how much he loves returning to Brazil and being surprised every time by the intensity of the band's Brazilian fans.
The lead singer took advantage of the incredible energy to promise that they will return to the country next year. The band and the fans sang the Canadian group's greatest hits in unison at a show where it was impossible to stay still, even if you tried. The band's biggest hit, "Wake The Dead," was their farewell to their fans in São Paulo.
“You said, you said, you said
This time was gonna be different
Wake up the dead”
The band is still on its South American tour, passing through countries such as Colombia, Chile, and Uruguay before bidding farewell to Latin America.
