During a show in Seattle last Friday, the 22nd, Coldplay decided to pay homage to one of their favorite bands: Pearl Jam . With Chris Martin on vocals and guitar, and drummer Will Champion on piano, the band delivered an acoustic version of the song "Nothingman".
Before starting to play, Chris Martin took a minute to demonstrate his love and affection for the band with a quick speech. “Because we’re here in Seattle, we wanted to pay tribute to one of the bands we fell in love with as young teenagers in the 90s. But don’t put it on YouTube because this isn’t Adele singing ‘Make You Feel My Love,’ that’s not what you’re about to see,” he joked.
“This is a 44-year-old man remembering how much he fell in love with Pearl Jam in 1991. If you told that kid he’d be here singing this song, he’d say, ‘Are you sure this is a good idea?’ and I’d reply, ‘Maybe not, but let’s play it anyway.’”
Towards the end of the song, Chris Martin sent his regards to Eddie Vedder and thanked the musician for his affection for Coldplay. In 2016, Martin and Vedder sang "Nothingman" together at the Global Citizen concert in New York. See the video below.
