Brazilian punk rock icon underwent heart surgery on Friday afternoon, the 12th, and is recovering.

Clemente Tadeu Nascimento underwent complex emergency heart surgery this Friday, the 12th.

Nascimento, 62, was admitted to the Santa Casa de Campo Grande hospital and underwent heart surgery in the afternoon. The procedure took place after the musician felt unwell the previous night, shortly before a scheduled performance in Campo Grande (MS).

The news was shared by family members through the bands' social media accounts. The family also announced that the musician is recovering and asked for privacy and understanding during this time. Read the statement below.

"The Nascimento family, Inocentes and Plebe Rude inform that last night, December 11th, in Campo Grande/MS, moments before a show, Clemente Nascimento felt unwell and needed to be admitted to the Santa Casa hospital in the city."

Clemente underwent complex emergency heart surgery this afternoon and is recovering. We ask for your understanding and privacy at this time and sincerely thank you for all the expressions of support and positive energy. Further information will be released as soon as possible.

Considered one of the pioneers of the punk movement in Brazil since the late 1970s, Clemente began his career with the band Restos do Nada and later founded Inocentes in 1981, in addition to being a member of Plebe Rude since 2004. Besides being a musician, he also works as a producer, DJ, and presenter.
